Winner - Stewart Filmscreen Corp.'s Director's Choice 100

September 27, 2013 - Stewart Filmscreen's Director's Choice DC-100 is the ultimate marriage of the world's best screen material and the most precise masking system available. The DC-100 represents an improvement to Director's Choice and Director's Choice 2.0 systems up to 14' in image width. Upgrades include full horizontal masking closure, and a slimmer 10" frame profile that allows maximum screen area for any given room dimension.

Director's Choice can be optimized with any of Stewart's award-winning front or rear projection materials. Microperf X2, the unique, THX-Certified perforation pattern that Stewart developed over a decade ago is available when acoustic transparency is required.

Stewart's exclusive VeLux? black-velvet appliqué gives the Director's Choice a luxurious look and feel. This specialized frame finish absorbs possible over-scan while boosting perceived contrast.

Basement Goes From Playroom to Palatial Home

September 18, 2013 by Lisa Montgomery - When the kids grow up, it's time to put the toys away and do something more mature with a playroom. The natural inclination for a family of movie lovers: Transform it into a dedicated home theater that all ages can appreciate. That's exactly what the owners of this remarkable space accomplished recently, with the help of the custom electronics (CE) professionals at Admit One Cinema, Edina, Minn.

The spaciousness of the spot also enabled the CE pros to integrate lots of speakers, a huge screen and a "star-gazing window" on the ceiling. A 12-foot-wide, curved CinemaScope screen from Stewart Filmscreen had no problem fitting in, as did the seven speakers and four subwoofers of the JBL Synthesis surround-sound system.

CEDIA 2013: Stewart Filmscreen Transformed

September 26, 2013 by Al Griffin - Stewart Filmscreen is a company whose name is strongly linked with the dedicated home theater concept, but even they acknowledge that the concept is in decline. People are starting to gravitate toward viewing movies and TV in open, multiple-use living spaces, not dark, isolated viewing vaults.

The company's new Transformer 3-roller system being shown here at CEDIA is a direct response to this trend. The Transformer incorporates three roll-down elements: a blackout shade to cover up a window or other open space; a projection screen; and a masking element to format the 2.35.1 aspect ratio screen for 16:9 content. Any screen material can be used with the Transformer, including the company's new FireHawk LS, a lower-gain replacement for its FireHawk G3 that expands the viewing cone and reduces hotspots.
